Donauinselfest, also known as the Danube Island Festival, is the biggest music festival in the world. Every year, it takes place in Vienna, Austria, on an island in the middle of the Danube River. It's no surprise that this event is so popular - it has attracted more than 3 million people! The festival is held on Donauinsel, a 13-mile long island in the center of Vienna. It covers 4 miles and is divided into several areas that host over 2000 artists.
There are 13 stages and 17 thematic areas. Since its first edition in 1968, when Ronnie Dove, The New Colony Six, The Robbs and Up With People performed, Donauinselfest has become renowned for its music. New Orleans is a city of music, and it's home to two of the biggest music festivals in the world. The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is one of the most important musical events in the city's history.
It's impressive that a place with less than 400,000 inhabitants can host such a large event - the average attendance of a music festival is 100,000 people! The Electric Daisy Carnival, held in Las Vegas, is one of the biggest electronic dance music festivals in the world. It broke a Guinness world record for its huge crowd! The Sziget Festival rose from the ashes of the end of communism in Hungary to become one of Europe's most famous musical events. Summerfest held the Guinness World Record for the world's largest music festival until 1999 and is still very close to the podium today. It takes place in Raleigh, North Carolina at Dorothea Dix Park - a 300-acre urban park with plenty of public green space.
